Cielo Dress Hack in Dreamy Tencel
Fall sewing has been a slow sewing season for me this year. The city I recently moved to has been switching between gorgeous fall days and snowy days a lot...yes, SNOW. So I have been slowing down and enjoying the actual sewing process as opposed to rushing to get to the finished garment. My new dress which I’m totally in love with took me about three weeks to complete because I was in no hurry to wear it the next day, thanks to the ever-changing weather. I love how it turned out and I hope you do too!
Fabric & Pattern details
I used the most beautiful tencel/linen from A & R Fabrics. I was gifted this gorgeous fabric by Trin of A&R Fabric after I commented on a fellow sewists photo and proceeded to talk about how gorgeous the fabric was and hoping I could try sewing with tencel soon.
Fabric Composition: 80% Tencel / 20% Linen
Color: Pomegranate (the true color of this fabric was distroted after I brightened my photos as I took the photos on a cloudy day so below is a photo of the true color shade)
Pattern Used: The Cielo Top pattern by Closetcase Patterns
It was a dream to work with in every aspect and the color really is beautiful! This is the second time I have used the Cielo Top pattern. The first time, I made a mismatched too and made no modifications to the pattern. You can read more about that here.
Pattern Modifications
To achieve this look, I made three modifications to this pattern:
I lengthened the pattern so it ended about 3 inches above my knee.
I added a ruffle to the hem
I modified the width of the sleeves to achieve the bishop sleeves look and added cuffs to the sleeve hem. I found an image from By Hand London via Pinterest on how to achieve this.
My favorite feature of this pattern is the back yoke. I added lace to add texture and to emphasize that design feature a little more. I also think it gives it a unique touch. That’s why I sew right?
Styling
For fall, I’m pairing it with tights and boots. I added a scarf because it was a chilly day. Once the warmth is back again, some flats or tennis shoes will give it a more casual look. I could also pair it with heels for a night out. As usual, I love my pieces to be versatile and wearable as possible and this one was definitely a win!
Cheers,
