Fibremood Tammy Hack
I am a big advocate of putting your own twists on sewing patterns. From little adjustments to major ones that can totally transform a project into an incredible craftwork. I see patterns as a guide or gateway to unlocking your creativity while making garments that fit you. So here I am again with a simple but beautiful hack. This time, the pattern I played around with was the Fibremood Tammy dress pattern. Let’s get into the details.
PS. I made this garment as part of a paid collaboration with Fibremood + Polytex Stoffen + Mettler Thread
Pattern: Tammy by Fibremood. It is actually a dress pattern with a V-shaped ruffle bodice, side ties, and an A-line shaped skirt with a zipper in the back.
Size range: It goes up to 57.5” in the bust
Fabric: I use 100% viscose crepe by Polytex Stoffen. A list of fabric shops that carry their fabric can be found here.
My body measurements: 41.5” bust, 34.5” waist, 44.5” hips
Size made: Size L
Hack details/Pattern adjustments made:
I shortened and cut the front and back pieces to my desired top length
I lengthened the top side panel to match the new front and back length (I did not cut out a bottom side panel since I wasn’t making a dress)
I took off 1 inch in the width of the ruffle pattern piece for moderately sized, less dramatic ruffles
I cut the sleeves as is but created a channel for the elastic 3 inches above the hem
I ignored the side tie details in the dress pattern and did not cut out those pieces (i.e. tie and casing pieces)
I eliminated the zipper and made a keyhole feature with a loop and button instead
I think it turned out really cute. The texture of the fabric made it even more gorgeous in my opinion. I am glad I gave it a try. It’s always a win when a pattern hack turns out even better than imagined.
Happy Sewing,
