Pretty in Pink - DIY Refashioned Dress
Happy New Year!
There is something special about refashioning and giving thrifted items a new life. I am so happy I decided to start the year with a refashion project. 2020 was a rough start for me so this was a great way to motivate myself to get back into sewing.
I picked up this gorgeous pink dress from a thrift store about a month ago. I fell in love with the color at first sight so even though it was a few sizes too big for me, I knew I could make it work somehow. I initially thought I was simply going to take the dress in and shorten it a little.
However taking in the sides in by more than 3 inches began to distort the zipper in the back so I decided to go another route:
I took each side in by an inch, so it could still have a loose fit
Then I shortened it to my desired length
I then used the excess fabric to make ruffles (Hem measurement x 2 to make the ruffle).
Ta-da! That was how this refashion happened. I documented this refashion project and hoping to upload it to my IGTV by the weekend. Maybe it’ll help motivate you to give a garment a second chance :-)
Happy Sewing!
