Welcome to my blog! I created ‘The Ravel Out’ to capture my makes while I unravel my sewing ideas, one stitch at a time.

Ravel (out)

verb

  1. unravel; untangle.

  2. undo (twisted, knitted, or woven threads).

DIY DRESS (+ pattern review)

I actually managed to complete my sewing project this weekend! I am officially an advanced beginner in sewing. This pattern was very easy and did not give me any headaches at all. Since I loved it so much, I decided to write a pattern review for it which can be viewed here and below my pictures as well. I also plan to sew the other styles/views that come with this pattern. Happy Monday! :-) IMG_2697

NEW LOOK 6342 MISSES' DRESS - PATTERN REVIEW

View sewn: View A (Dress without overbodice)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes. It looks exactly like it

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy to follow. Great for beginners

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved how great it fit my body in general; very snug yet comfortable

Fabric Used: African Fabric (Cotton)

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I added waist darts to it (view A) for a better fit

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes! I'll be using this again

Conclusion: This is a great pattern for beginners. This was my first time sewing a form fitting dress and I had no issues. It's a great pattern to use as a base for other dress designs. I plan to sew the other views of this pattern as well.
