Welcome to my blog! I created ‘The Ravel Out’ to capture my makes while I unravel my sewing ideas, one stitch at a time.

Ravel (out)

verb

  1. unravel; untangle.

  2. undo (twisted, knitted, or woven threads).

Handmade Knit Dress! (+ pattern review)

This was my first time working with a knit fabric. I am very pleased with the result. I will definitely be making more shift dresses for the fall. IMG_5707

McCall's 6747 Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Pullover, close-fitting top and dresses have button neck and front bands, and stitched hems

Pattern Sizing: Regular

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes, for the most part.

Were the instructions easy to follow? I honestly did not follow the instructions as much. I read through them and decided to take a few things out.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I did not add button flaps and pockets. I wanted a very simple design. Something that looked more like a shift dress.

Fabric Used: Knit fabric

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes! I'm actually sewing a second one.

Conclusion:  Great for all levels of sewists. This was my first time sewing with a knit fabric and this pattern made it easy for me to get used to that type of fabric. Will be using the pattern to sew more knit dresses for fall.
