Spring Freshness with Cotton Eyelet Dress (M7974)
Spring is here but it is a different kind of spring this year to say the least. So I thought it’ll be great to start it off with something I can control - by making the spring-est Spring dress I’ve ever made. Joining the Spring Blog Tour hosted by Style Maker Fabrics was the best way to make this dress happen. It doesn’t get more Spring than a coral colored cotton eyelet dress. Here are all the details about my new make.
Pattern: M7974 by McCall’s Pattern Company.
About the pattern: The pattern is a buttoned front dress with a fitted bodice with front midriff, back yoke and gathered skirt with side seam pockets. There are different sleeve and dress length variations.
Fabric used: Circle Dot Embroidered Cotton Eyelet by Style Maker Fabrics. I chose the coral color and used 3.75 yards. There are other gorgeous colors available as well. This fabric has just the right amount of drape and structure for this pattern. This gorgeous fabric was gifted to me as part of the Spring Style Blog Tour.
My measurements: Bust-40”, Waist-34”, Hips-45”
Size & View Made: I made size 14 of the pattern in View C (with modified sleeves).
Modifications: Sleeves - I used only the top sleeve section of the View C version, lengthened it and put an elastic band 2.5 inches above the sleeve hem. Lining - I lined the skirt part of this dress. I did not line the bodice.
Hardest part of pattern: None (in my opinion). It was overall an easy pattern to make. There weren’t any new or odd skills that had to be done with this make.
Unique about pattern: I think the thickness of the waistband/midriff makes it very flattering. Such a classic piece!
What I loved/disliked: The silhouette of this pattern is gorgeous and I particularly like the slight gathers at the bust. I also like that the skirt doesn’t have as many gathers as a typical gathered skirt would. This means less bulk at the waist. Yipeee!
I hope you love this Spring make as much as I do!
Happy Sewing,
