A Dash of Spring - DIY Pona Jacket
I have had this fun dash print in my stash for at least six months. About a week ago, I got the courage to cut into it to make a jacket and I’m so glad I did. I’m so ready for spring now :-)
Fabric Details
Fabric: Cotton poplin
Bought: 2 yards from Spoonflower
Fabric designer: Katie Kortman
It’s medium weight and sews beautifully. It does need to be pressed before each wear (in my opinion) so if you don’t like ironing, you may want to consider another type of fabric.
Pattern Details
The Pona Jacket by Helen’s Closet is an unlined jacket which features a dramatic lapel, drop shoulders, pockets, and an oversized blazer feel. It is available in size 0-30
I made a size 10 graded to 12 in the hips.
My measurements: 40” bust, 34” waist, 45” hips
This was my first time making the Pona jacket so as first times usually go, there are a few things I’ll do differently the next time.
I’m not a big fan of facings so next time, I’ll line it fully.
I’m still not sure if I like the drop shoulder look on a jacket but I’ll reasses that after I get a few wears from it.
I paired it with my thrifted dress that I recently refashioned. I think they go well together and is a great look for spring.
Hope this helps anyone considering the pattern.
Cheers,
Sylvia XOXO
