Leopard Print Love

Leopard Print Love

I am so excited that Spring is finally here! This means it is time to bring out all the fun, quirky, and colorful prints. I am starting off with this vibrant leopard knit from Measure Fabric.

Fabric Details & Review

This beautiful fabric is described by Measure Fabric as a fun modern take on the classic leopard print which is sure to catch your eye. I cannot argue with that as this fabric immediately caught my because the colors are not what you would usually expect which is my favorite thing about this fabric. It is a medium weight cotton knit which is perfect for light cardigans, tops, and dresses. Of course I chose to use it as a dress which is my default setting for warm weather.

First Impression

My first impression when I received the fabric was pure joy. I you follow me on Instagram you may have seen me dancing with my newly received fabric on my IG stories :-) It was slightly less opaque than I was expecting but the drape was heavenly. I pre-washed it on tap cold washer and tumble dry. Once that was done I was ready to transform it into a gorgeous garment and newest addition to my closet.

It took about a week to decided what kind of dress to make. I was initially considering a twist front dress but after much deliberation I decided a simpler dress would be best. This was mainly because i wanted to show off the fabric as much as possible and I felt a simpler dress would be ideal.

Pattern Choice

I made this dress by hacking the Hemlock Tee pattern, which is a free pattern by Grainline Studio. I cut the tee at the natural waist. For the skirt portion, I simply measured my wait and hips and cut out a skirt in the shape of a pencil skirt. I sewed both pieces together and voila!

Styling

I chose to stick to the green theme when it came to styling. I threw on a green jacket I bought about a year ago, added a belt to cinch the waist of the dress even more, and added my favorite red lip bag as a pop of color! I hope you loved this project as much as I did.

Happy Sewing,
