And the year of firsts continues! This time, I made my first maxi shirt dress and I must say it was not as easy as I thought it would be. Who decides to make a button down dress, with a back pleated self-lined yoke, mandarin collar, elastic waist, side pockets, and a narrow hem on three first attempt? (this girl!)
This process was definitely a labor of love for me. It took me a while mainly because I can only sew at night now but for someone who enjoys quick projects, this was tedious in a good way.
The wind was ever so in my favor for this photoshoot! I love how it made the dress look and I hope you do too.
REVIEW: McCall's 7242 (View C)
Pattern Description: Loose-fitting dresses have mandarin collar, blouson bodice, back pleated into self-lined yoke, elastic waist, side pockets, and narrow hem. View C
Pattern Sizing: Size 14 (Should have cut 12)
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes it did!
Were the instructions easy to follow? They were easy enough to follow.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love that it had pockets and the mandarin collar!
Fabric Used: Polyester
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I had to shorten the skirt because i'm not the tallest person but that was pretty much it. Followed this pattern to a tee
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Definitely!
Conclusion: This is definitely not a beginner project but it is a fun project for intermediate and advanced makers. I enjoyed the process of making it and would recommend it in a heartbeat!
