This year has been full of firsts, from making baby clothes to button up tops. Up next? Shirt dresses! I just tried making a shirt dress for the first time and I am in love with this project. It was my slowest sew of the year (so far) but I actually enjoyed taking my time.
It was a great shift from the 'easy projects' that I'm used. I used McCalls pattern 6891. This pattern is definitely on my top pattern list. Enjoy the pattern review below.
McCall's 6891 REVIEW
Pattern Description: Easy dress with collar, semi-fitted bodice and narrow hem
Pattern Sizing: I used size 12
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes! Exactly like it.
Were the instructions easy to follow? On a scale of 1 - 10 i'll give the instructions an 8. I took me a few takes to get the collar right but it wasn't terribly difficult once I figured it out
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? The skirt part. This was my first time sewing a half circle skirt. I can't believe it took me this long. Love it!
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No. I usually like my dresses and skirts above my knee but this length was perfect for this dress.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Definitely! It's a great addition to my wardrobe and wouldn't mind having it in a few different colors and fabrics.
Conclusion: I highly recommend it to any beginner/intermediate sewer looking for a challenge. It's an easy sew for an advanced person.
