African Print Hannah Wrap Dress
For the last couple of months, I have been on the hunt for a new wrap dress pattern. If you sew then you know that wrap dresses can be tricky. From gaping necklines to deep cleavage “parties”. I knew I was not going to find a perfect pattern but I wanted one that fit good enough and was worth making additional adjustments to. The Hannah wrap dress fit into this category so I decided to adjust it to fit my body and voila! Now I am happy to have a wrap pattern I can work with. Here are the details.
Pattern – Hannah Dress by ByHandLondon
About the pattern – This dress has a scoop wrap neckline, a gently gathered skirt and three sleeve options
Fabric used – African print (100% cotton). I bought this print a couple years ago during a visit to Ghana
My body measurements – Bust 40”, waist 34” Hips 45”
Size & view made – I made size US/UK 12/16. I made the dress with the short sleeve version
Modifications/Adjustments –
Full bust adjustment
Removed 1 inch from the neckline to eliminate gaping
Lengthened the bust dart by 1inch as the original dart was too short
Moved the waist dart 1 inch over to match the bust dart point
I also shortened the skirt length by 8inches because I did not have enough fabric for a midi length.
Wearable muslin - I knew I needed to make most of these changes because I made a wearable muslin version before cutting into the fabric I intended to use. Below is a shot of my first version.
Happy Sewing,
