Welcome to my blog! I created ‘The Ravel Out’ to capture my makes while I unravel my sewing ideas, one stitch at a time.

Ravel (out)

verb

  1. unravel; untangle.

  2. undo (twisted, knitted, or woven threads).

Pattern Mixing - Me made outfit

I made an entire outfit and attempted mixing patterns! After making a few basics, i needed a little fix. This project was the definition of pattern mixing for me - knits and woven, stripes and florals...somehow it worked out. DSC_0035

Top

I made the striped turtleneck knit top using The Rowan Tee by Megan Nielsen Patterns. I used a knit fabric that had been in my stash for over a year and can no longer remember where I got it or what the actual fabric contents are.

Skirt

For the skirt, I hacked the Charlotte Skirt from By Hand London into a wrap skirt! I was inspired by a photo I saw and Pinterest and made my version. I am pleased with the results. The floral fabric is from DG Patterns and it is a cotton linen which is such a great fabric content combo! It seems it is sold out at this point but you can check out the other fabrics on the site.

Styling

I chose to pair this handmade outfit with a green ready to wear jacket which paired so great with it! I am happy with how it turned out.

Now back to my goal of making some more basics for my closet.

Enjoy your day!
