DIY Loni Top

This may be a simple and absolutely gorgeous top but I had to make it twice to get the fit right. I am going to make this blog as succinct as possible so let's dive right in!

Pattern: Loni Top by Lore Pair

Pattern Description: “The LONI top is an iconic 90’s garment featuring cups with underbust darts for a greater fit and a scoop-neck.”

Size range: 29.9” to 63” bust

Fabric used: Ponte knit

My body measurements: 41” bust, 34.5” waist, 44.5” hips

Size made: Size 44 (Group B), E cup

Feedback:

The instructions are quite thorough. I love that it guides you how to adjust the pattern depending on your cup measurement. After following to instructions, I was able to determine I was an E cup for this specific pattern and completed the adjustments as needed. However, I was not successful on my first attempt at sewing this as my adjusted cups did not fit the lower front bodice and caused gathers at the bust (pictured below).

It is important to note the the pattern clearly instructs that you “Make sure the new seam course from the cup (without the dart) matches the same seam course from the front.” I did not do this step and it was the reason for all the problems I had.

This project was the first time I tried the “invisible binding” method to finish a neckline (for knit garments) and I must say that I do love how the neckline turned out.

Pattern adjustments:

• Adjusted cups to fit my bust (see feedback above)

• Adjusted lower front bodice to fit cups (It is very important to make sure the cups match the lower bodice before cutting into your precious fabric).

• Shortened pattern by 2 inches before hemming.

I am glad I gave this pattern a second chance. It is such a beautiful elevated basic top and I intend to make a few more to pair with my other makes.
